I have always wondered how it is to bath in a river. Not only is it a public display but it is quite unnerving to see that the same river is serving the bathing needs of buffaloes, trucks, clothes and what not. Also, you have young swimmers who might consider relieving themselves in the water in a secret sort of way a nice hobby. As a kid, I have taken some dips in the Godavari in my home town and now it seems that those maybe the last ones for this life, at least.

Due to personal reasons, I have not been able to travel outside Bangalore for quite some time. That has resulted in a drastic fall in the number of photos that I take nowadays. So the focus has been to take pictures either indoors or when I visit some usual haunts. The Venugopalaswamy temple in Malleshwaram is one such place. On Sundays, they have several poojas and they all end with a lovely feast at 1:00 in the afternoon. Managed to click some decent snaps during the process and will be posting them this week. Starting with one of the tamil "mamis" who eagerly wait for their regular helpings of pulayogare and pongal.

A little background on how I did this - pretty simple and basic actually. Just took a few of these flowers fresh from the florists. Held it up in the air by its stalk and did some backlighting by my two old table lamps till I got the right effect. Voila!

Children have a way of establishing eye contact with you in the most innocent and adorable fashion. However, if you reciprocate back, they consciously tend to avoid your gaze. But the curiosity to check up if you are still staring is always there and at regular intervals of time, they look back at you. At that moment if there is eye contact, they go back to pretend that you do not exist at all.

This girl at one of the traffic signals at Bangalore fell into the same pattern. As the bus moved away, she gave a final glance and was lost to me forever except for this photograph.

Among the many things that I always wanted to do in my life, was to see the Mysore Palace lit up during Dasara. Last year that dream came true and I can assure you it is a sight worth seeing. During the day time, I had a look at those bulbs being used to light up the whole place and observed that they were of a special type. They can be inserted only into an unique holder. The reason is simple - prevent people from stealing it! After all what would you do with a bulb that can never be used anywhere except the palace.

A few weeks back, I grabbed some sunflower seeds from the Namdhari stores near my house. Being a keen but completely amateur and lazy gardener, I ignored all those technical instructions on the planting process and just buried the seeds in an unused pot.

Mumbai sees a large number of tourists all round the year and the Gateway of India is a "must see". While, I have always wondered, what is so great about the structure, the tourists do not seem to think so and crowd around the place.

Many years back, that board said "Bombay" but our "Marathi Manus" would have none of it and changed everything to Mumbai. Now folks, in my other home town, Bangalore also have woken upto the fact that Bengaluru sounds much better. I fervently pray to God to give these people some sense and focus on the real issues.

This was at a wonderful Jain temple in Nashik. The temple under construction since a few years is a sight to behold. Exquisite work in stone all over with gigantic idols of the tirthankaras inside make the temple a great place to visit. Photography is not allowed inside the temple. I have posted ealier pictures from the famous Kala Ram temple in Nashik. Well, I had an opportunity to go there again this time. In the main corridor of the temple, there was a middle-aged man singing about the futilities of this material world. This boy though I am sure completely unaware of the philosophical nature of the song was quite taken in by the rhythm. He was enthusiastically clapping and swinging. The only pause was when he saw me taking this picture.

Panchavati in Nashik was the place where Lord Rama spent a considerable part of his stay during his "vananvas". It is also reportedly here that Sita was abducted by Ravana.

Now Panchavati belongs to what is known as "Old Nashik". Like Bangalore, Nashik too is growing to be yet another mall-filled city.

This photo to me captures the fact that Lord Rama has now to share space with the trappings of the modern world.

A face shows to me the kind of life a person has lived. Every line and spot has a story to tell, how the years have moulded that person. This photo is of a Vaishanava priest whom I met almost a year ago. He is well over 80 but has the enthusiasm and the drive of a 8 year old. He has travelled all over India and is keen for more. His face definitely generated a calmness and serenity, so missing from the chaos of the urban life see in the background.

I am not so good in identifying butterflies or for that matter even birds, but I sure do love them. Google tells me that this is a Clouded Yellow Butterfly. If that is wrong, can someone correct me?

P.S. - Sorry for the slightly disturbing name and year info at the bottom. I am sure all of you must be having an idea why it is there :-) Have tried my best to keep it as inconspicous as possible.

Cheque sent by Workaholiks

Finally, today evening, I received the promised cheque at my office from Workaholiks. The amount may not be great but since that was never the reason for this whole affair, I do not think it is fair on my part to talk more about that. I have decided to donate that money to my favourite charity, the Akshaya Patra Foundation, which feeds midday meals to thousands of underprivileged school children in public schools.

This does not mean,in the least,the end of this issue. Workaholiks' unauthorized usage of my image and their subsequent unprofessional behaviour do not go away. They still have to deal with Shankar's case and many more which may get discovered later. Also today it is Workaholiks, tomorrow it maybe someone else. Hence, the larger issue still remains and we have a lot of work still awaiting us. I am grateful to all of you who despite your own commitments and work pressures gave me the support. Today, the fact that this issue is being discussed, debated all over the place is because of you guys. The fact that Workaholiks does not exist anymore on the web (even the mail ids are not working now), is because of you. Most importantly, in the future, when someone tries to do something like this again, they will think a million times before doing it. And that has happened, only because all of us coming together for this. Lastly, through Akshaya Patra, at least one child will be fed for one year due to this. Surely, it was worth it!

I will work on this further as part of Bangalore Shutter Bugs and I hope that all of us do the same on an individual basis as well as through our communities. I am sure, if we stand united and fight against such acts with the same spirit and zeal, nothing is not achievable.

Let me reply to you point by point:

Making people aware of how their material is not safe anymore on the net and how to deal with unprofessional ad agencies like yours.

we told you a week ago that the cheque was ready you have not picked it up and you make it sound like we are not paying for it.
On the 25th of November, after repeated mails and telephone conv., I had to send an ultimatum mail to you to which you replied back saying "We are mailing a cheque of Rs.2000 by courier today." Nowhere did you mention that I was supposed to pick up the cheque as you claim now and neither did you bother to even ask me on the suitability of the amount. Not that I was bothered about that given my reply to your mail in which I clearly thanked you for the cheque.

Secondly we asked you to come to our office and i also clearly remember offering to meet you anywhere convienient to you. you called us several times almost everyday and turned up after a month.
I agree with what you have said but you forget to mention that I called up everytime, I had fixed an appointment with you, expressing my inability to come over due to work pressure. And the last time when I was held up at office, I, in fact asked my wife to give you a call and cancel the meeting. At that time, Subu told her that there is no need for me to call up and I can come over anyday after 6:00. However, before the first time when I did come, I called up Subu who said you would be there and he would not be since he had already left office. And what did I get? I had to sit in your office for almost half an hour before someone turned up and asked me what I was doing there. The second time when I came over, I am sure you remember I spoke to you and you said that please come at 6:30. I left office and rushed since this time I definitely wanted to speak to you guys. But it was the same story. Empty office. And it was only after 20 minutes that you turned up and pretended as if everyting
was normal. Well, unfortunately, I like to be in on time and I expect others to understand that as well.

Agreed. But then I sent a reply and no one from your firm has got back to me till now.

how do you expect us to send the cheque without the voucher or the invoice.
I really do not know since I am not in this business, you are. I am sure you remember our first meeting. You asked me for my address and phone and said that the cheque would be sent to my mailing address. As mentioned above, you also sent me a mail, saying that the cheque is coming by courier. Did you not think of this invoice thing then? Surely, I am not the first supplier you are dealing with.

I told you about the other work because i though your work was good not to compensate for the pic.

Tej, I think you should check you mail box or ask Subu to check his. I have told you that I really do not have the time nor energy to come over to your place. I have done that twice and not with great results. Please let us not forget that I have a demanding profession and deadlines to meet. I gave you three options in my reply -
1. Send me the format of the invoice by post, I will create it, sign it and send it across.
2. Send me the voucher by post, I will sign it and send it across.
3. Please send someone from your office with the voucher and I will do the needful.
Surely all the three options here are practical and feasible. You have not even replied back to this. What do you have to say for that?

If you wanted anything else you shuld have told us this is not the way to behave, when subu has been replying to your mails and has been in touch with you the whole time.
I have never wanted anything else and I have always agreed to everything that you have said. You said I will mail money to your address, I said ok. You said you will give me 2000 bucks, I said ok. Please jog your memory and try to remember even one demand I have made. I am sure you remember me telling you in your office that I am least bothered about what you pay me and whatever you pay me, I would plough it back into photography. Subu indeed was more responsive and maybe in the heat of the moment
promised that everything will be resolved a few weeks back. That was the last I have heard from him.

I am sure you have now received Shankar's mail about his photograph being pilfered by your firm and posted on the website. Looks like this whole thing has opened a really dirty can of worms in your backyard.

I hope you learn something from this and at least now try to salvage whatever little is left. Just remember that in a few week's time, anyone who wants to search for your firm on Google will only get these kind of links about your firm. Not the best publicity that you would want given the fact that ironically all this started with Google.

Well, that was the mail and my reply. Let us see how it moves from here. But the most important aspect of this whole episode was the immense support that I have got from all the bloggers out there and all my photographer friends frm BSB and BPC. Thanks so much guys! It means a lot to me. Knowing that there are so many people out there to help you is all I could have asked for. I have so many emails to reply to still.
