Priest in the City

Kanchana and I met this priest as we were waiting outside Cauvery theatre in the beginning of this year. His regal posture and calmness, inspite of all the traffic and noise around him, made a strong impression on me. By luck, I had my camera with me and I wanted to get some shots of him. We immediately rushed and struck a conversation with him. It was a memorable one with his tales of the past interspersed with his own brand of dry humour. Before we departed, he invited us to his temple just around the corner and gave us some sumptuous food. Yummy! BTW, he always walks barefoot around the city. No use for shoes or sandals for him!
I have blown out the whites using PS to throw the background into a haze and convey a feeling of purity around him with only his face being in the spotlight...

Great shot!
did you try desaturating this picture? it would take out all the distractions behind and get the priest in total focus..
he looks so calm and collected.. real good shot.
thank you for sharing.
Potpourri - He was speaking to my wife while I was taking his photographs. We had a real nice conversation with him, I agree it is great fun to take pics in India what with the sharp contrasts in lifestyles and the variety of faces and colours....
Nish - I did try desaturating but was not very happy. So stuck to this :-)
Timurilenk - I wanted the background to be muted but not completely disappear as it lends a nice contrast to the calmness on his face...
