Hunter on a Horse

At the southern edge of the intricately carved "thousand pillared" kalyan mantapa, or hall, the Vijayanagara rulers added 8 pillars with huge rearing horses and hunters armed with steeds. The hall itself was constructed during the late Chola period (13th century).

During the months of December and January, Tamil hymns are recited from its southern steps of the hall as part of the Vaikuntha Ekadasi festival.
