Hanging On

In my in-laws garden. Butterfly enthusiasts can help me in obtaining more information about this butterfly.

It is a common palmfly.
It just emerged from the cocoon, and hanging on still because the wings aren't dry yet. If you were there earlier (just around dawn), you could have witnessed how it emerges from such a small box, and the beauty gets unfolded slowly.
Nice capture!

Does look very much like Elymnias hypermnestra agina (Common Palmfly). Possibly an Indian variant. The Common Palmfly is very "common" :) in Singapore.
It is also very sensitive to the surroundings, and hence quite difficult to get a "classic" shot. This one seems to be hanging on for its dear life.. hehe

Suyog you missed capturing what could have been a really momentous picture! As Koushik said, its letting gravity make the blood flow into its crumpled wings, drying them out and strengthening them. Nice capture (the pink distracts though). Would dearly have loved to see it crawling out of its cocoon.
